Built with the utmost sensitivity to the surrounding environment, Ocean Moss curves around resident indigenous trees so as not to disturb them. The gentle sounds of water flowing from one rock pool into the next, the quiet shush of the waves below, the chirping of birds and insects are all part of the mosaic of experience that is “garden” at Ocean Moss. Smells from the herb garden - peppermint, jasmine, liquorish and garlic - are similarly interwoven into the mosaic, as are the wild ferns, yellow wood trees, indigenous plants, moss and rock fountains, pebbles, driftwood and wooden railway sleepers.

The distressed Moroccan front door opens into a world of sensual wonderment – a place where all the senses are stimulated and massaged. The eye is immediately drawn to the breathtaking wrap-around view from the open plan lounge and huge “floating” balcony ( “sink into” sofas; clay pot fireplace; flat screen tv; home theatre system; DSTV; DVD player); the feet want to dance on the silky smooth poplar and Australian myrtle wood floors (“No shoes please” is an easy-to-observe Ocean Moss policy); wonderful smells assail the nose from the superbly appointed kitchen – the hub of socializing and interaction – created by local artist Steven Hair who has managed to blend organic, rough and raw with state-of-the-art convenience and modernity; and the soft sound of the sea is a soothing, ever present component of all that is Ocean Moss.

Accessed via the main living area, this sumptuous downstairs bedroom is place of magic and mystery. A spacious four poster Indonesian double bed, romantic drapes, a private garden deck, a luxurious en-suite mother-of-pearl-and-sea-shell bedecked bathroom all transform into an English country garden sparkling with fireflies when a myriad of fibre optics in the domed ceiling light up the delicate floral murals on the ceiling and upper walls.

An intertwining fish mosaic at the entrance to Ocean Moss reflects the ebb and flow of the ocean (and of life), the edges of all the walls are rounded and often curved to ensure an uninterrupted flow throughout the home, a mosaic Tree of Life and exquisite mosaic sea creatures gracefully wind around the staircase, and all this magic is illuminated by a multi-coloured sea glass chandelier.

A beautiful handcrafted wooden desk, rope-suspended book shelves, timber floor, stack glass doors, a balcony and views and views and views characterize the study, a place for work, for creative thought, for inner contemplation, for accomplishment.

The main bedroom appears to be perched on top of the world with views stretching over the surrounding valleys to Buffalo Bay and all along the coast to Mosselbay. From this glass encased private eyrie both sunrise AND sunset can be enjoyed, whilst the glass crystal skylight beckons the moon and stars at night. Flowing Moroccan drapes adorn a huge walk-in cupboard, whilst a low stone-cladded wall and “bark” stained floors separate the bedroom from the magnificent en-suite glass encased bathroom with its enormous bath and its romantic pebble-floored shower for two.
